The History Behind Marina Point

Hear from the Marina Point architects on the unique history of the land, often referred to as the ‘diamond of Hope Island’.

The architects behind Hope Island’s newest waterfront community are no strangers to the Northern Gold Coast.

Greg Forgan and Greg Smith, of Forgan + Smith, began working on nearby Sanctuary Cove in the 1980s when it was just a dairy farm.

All those years ago, the land where Marina Point residents will soon call home, was identified as a feature site in the Island Masterplan – ‘a diamond of Hope Island’ – for its unique eastern corner block and 370 metres of absolute water frontage.

“One of the big things that puts this project ahead of its competitors is that we purposely designed the units to take the place of a traditional waterfront house,” Greg Smith said.

“These are much bigger units, they have much bigger balconies and they all face the right way being north, north-east.”

Each apartment’s layout continued to expand during the design phase to include premium elements like more butler’s pantries, more walk-in-wardrobes and minimum two car parks per unit, ultimately thinking of the future home owner instead of creating a concrete jungle.

“We had to get as many units on the water as possible without it turning into a big wall of boxes,” Greg Forgan said.

“As a result, we curved the sighting and broke up one big building into four separate buildings, each with their own individual character.

“Each building has two lifts as well so there is a feeling of independence when you live there, and with the space in between the buildings, it makes the place feel more open.”

Marina Point’s resort style amenities include the already completed Wellness Pavilion with a 25m heated lap pool, golf simulator room, yoga room, fully equipped Technogym, sauna and more. There will be additional facilities such as a Resident’s Club on the water’s edge, putting green, BBQ facilities and more than one hectare of landscaped gardens and green space overlooking the water.

Yet, the crown jewel of Marina Point is its private marina with bridge-free access to the ocean, featuring deep berths up to 25 metres in length to accommodate larger vessels like catamarans and flybridges.

Forgan + Smith has been working with Marina Point’s developer, The Sheida Group, for more than 30 years – which is a testament to the trust and mutual respect consistently delivered on each project.
